Why I Sing - Erin
In my first year of singing in Chamber Singers at Kenyon College, we sang Blazhenni Yazhe Izbral by Tchaikovsky. One day in the spring Doc Locke stopped rehearsal 5 minutes early and led us out onto the steps of Rosse Hall. There we sang Blazhenni, with an answering echo from Pierce Hall across the quad. People stopped, in the middle of their busy lives, to listen to this lovely song. As we sang "Their name shall live from generation to generation" in Russian, I could feel my voice contributing to that powerful and perfectly blended sound, and I felt a connection to the music that was deeply touching. I sing for those moments.
